Drawing on personal experience, Kirsten was direct in her assessment of Shubman Gill’s GT captaincy, saying, “It’s not like Test cricket.”

Shubman Gill led the Indian Premier League team on the field for the first time in his career last week after a convincing win over the Mumbai Indians. In their rematch with former Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya, the squad captained by Gill defeated the reigning champion Chennai Super Kings by a margin of just six runs.

Like last season’s Orange Cap winner Gill, he made a modest debut against MI (31 runs) and CSK (8 runs). When the Titans take on the powerful Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, they will be looking to climb up the standings after winning two of their previous three games. They are now in sixth position.

Before the thrilling game, Titans head coach Gary Kirsten shared his initial views on Gill’s formative years as the team’s captain. According to Kirsten, Gill is becoming more adept at making tactical choices in a quick-paced game like

The game is performed swiftly. You make decisions based on strategy at all times. Kirsten mentioned that it happens faster than Test cricket during the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

Before GT’s Sunday morning encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kirsten told the reporters, “I’ve been really impressed with the way he’s conducted himself as a leader.”

Kirsten reported that Gill adapted to his new role as GT captain quite well, following Hardik Pandya’s departure for MI.

He’s done an amazing job adjusting to being a captain, in my opinion. He has shown some excellent leadership qualities. He is a wise man. His knowledge of cricket is especially limited as a new skipper. And so, he will learn on the job.
